About Reservoir Spectacles
Independent eye care for Reservoir and Melbourne’s north.
We’re a locally owned optometry practice caring for children, adults and families.
Our focus is simple: thorough eye examinations, honest advice and long-term relationships with the people we care for.
Our story
A local practice with a long memory.
Reservoir Spectacles has cared for the local community for more than 36 years.
For around three decades the practice was owned by Michael, before John Sweeney took over and continued its tradition of independent, community-focused eye care.
We believe good eye care takes time. While we invest in modern diagnostic technology and quality lenses, the little things matter just as much: answering questions, explaining eye conditions clearly and helping people make informed decisions about their vision.
Sometimes that means personally delivering glasses to an elderly patient who can no longer drive. Sometimes it means speaking directly with a hospital eye clinic to help someone understand where they are on a surgical waiting list. More often, it is simply giving every patient the time they deserve.
As an independent practice, we are free to recommend what we genuinely believe is right for each person rather than following corporate targets or sales quotas. That helps us build relationships that often span generations of local families.
John is also President of the Reservoir Traders Association, reflecting our belief that a healthcare practice should contribute to the wider community as well as the patients who walk through its doors.
Comprehensive eye examinations
Thorough eye tests using modern diagnostic technology to assess both your vision and long-term eye health.
Independent advice
Recommendations based on what suits your eyes, lifestyle and budget, not corporate sales targets.
Long-term relationships
Many patients have trusted us with their family’s eye care for years, and we value that continuity.
Clinical care
Modern technology backed by clinical experience.
Careful interpretation and clear communication matter just as much as the equipment.
Our practice uses diagnostic technology including OCT retinal imaging, retinal photography, corneal topography and visual-field testing to help detect and monitor eye disease.
We explain what we found and what it means for your vision. When required, we work closely with local GPs, ophthalmologists and hospital eye services to provide coordinated care.
For families
Eye care for every stage of life.
From children’s first eye examinations through to complex eye-health management later in life, we care for patients of all ages.
Whether you need help with children’s vision, contact lenses, dry eye, diabetes-related eye examinations, prescription glasses or urgent eye concerns, our aim is to provide clear advice and practical solutions.

Choosing an optometrist is about more than updating your glasses. It is about finding a practice that takes time to understand your vision, explain your eye health and help you make informed decisions.
