About Reservoir Spectacles
Independent eye care, built around people — not production lines.
We’re a locally owned optometry practice in Melbourne’s north, providing thoughtful, thorough eye care for families, children, adults and patients with more complex eye health needs.
Our story
A local practice with a long memory.
Reservoir Spectacles has been part of Reservoir for 36 years. For around 30 of those years it was owned and cared for by Michael, before John became the practice owner and continued its independent local story.
We are small, local and real. That means we can be nimble, personal and practical in a way larger clinics often cannot. We invest in modern diagnostic technology and high-quality lenses, but we still believe old-fashioned service matters.
Sometimes that means personally dropping glasses to a 90-year-old patient who no longer drives. Sometimes it means calling the Royal Melbourne Hospital to help a patient understand where they are up to on a cataract surgery waiting list. Sometimes it is simply taking the extra few minutes to explain what is happening clearly, without rushing.
We are not trying to be the cheapest option, and we know not everyone needs that level of care. But for people who value thoughtful advice, continuity and a practice that genuinely tries to find the best outcome, that is what we are here for.
John is also President of the Reservoir Traders Association, and that local connection reflects how we see the practice: not just as a place to test eyes, but as part of the broader Reservoir community.
Thorough eye tests
Comprehensive vision and eye health checks using modern diagnostic technology.
Long-term care
We aim to build ongoing relationships, not rush people through one-off appointments.
Local and independent
Owned and run locally, with decisions made around patient care rather than corporate targets.
For families
Eye care for children, parents and grandparents.
We care for patients of all ages, from children having their first eye test through to adults needing help with changing vision, contact lenses, dry eye, diabetes checks or urgent eye symptoms.
Our goal is to make the process calm, clear and practical — especially when something feels confusing or worrying.
Clinical care
Modern technology, combined with experience, is the perfect match .
Diagnostic equipment helps us detect and monitor eye health problems, but technology is only useful when it is matched with experience, careful interpretation and clear communication.
Where needed, we can refer to local GPs, ophthalmologists and hospital eye services with clear clinical information.
