Our approach

We aim to provide timely assessment, useful clinical communication and coordinated care when ongoing monitoring or ophthalmology input is required.
Urgent eye care
Assessment of red eyes, flashes and floaters, sudden blurred vision, uveitis or iritis, superficial foreign bodies and other acute presentations.
Ocular disease
Monitoring and management support for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and other ocular conditions.
Children’s vision
Assessment of paediatric eye health, binocular-vision concerns and vision issues that may affect comfort or classroom participation.
Sudden major vision loss, a penetrating injury, chemical exposure, severe trauma or possible stroke symptoms should be directed to an emergency department or 000 rather than an optometry appointment.

Assessment guided by the clinical question.
Clinical findings can be communicated back to the referring practitioner where appropriate.
The practice uses retinal photography, OCT imaging, corneal topography, visual-field testing and iCare tonometry to assist with diagnosis, documentation and ongoing monitoring. Tests are selected according to the clinical question and findings.
Communication may include relevant findings, imaging and management or referral recommendations.

When ophthalmology input is required, we can assist with suitable public or private referral pathways.
This may include the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital or an appropriate private ophthalmologist, depending on clinical urgency, location and patient preference.

What information is helpful?
With the patient’s consent, include the reason for referral, symptom onset and urgency, relevant eye and medical history, medicines, any available vision findings and the referring practitioner’s contact details.
What if the concern is urgent?
Call to confirm that timely assessment is available. Sudden major vision loss, severe eye pain or a serious injury needs emergency care. If the practice is closed or prompt assessment is unavailable, use an emergency department; do not wait for a callback or routine booking.
