FL-41 lenses in Reservoir

FL-41 glasses for light sensitivity and migraine

Take the edge off uncomfortable light. FL-41’s distinctive rose tint can make everyday lighting feel gentler for people with light sensitivity, including those who experience migraine.

Whether it is overhead lighting, a bright screen or a busy shopping centre, greater visual comfort can make a real difference to your day. At Reservoir Spectacles, we help you explore FL-41 and choose a tint that suits your eyes, prescription and surroundings.

Everyday comfort

When light feels a little too much.

Light sensitivity, or photophobia, can make otherwise ordinary places uncomfortable. FL-41 is worth exploring when lighting is a regular source of discomfort.

Work and screens

Discuss FL-41 if overhead lighting or a bright display makes it difficult to work comfortably.

Shops and indoor spaces

A lighter tint may help soften the experience of bright artificial lighting while keeping the surroundings easy to see.

Migraine-related sensitivity

FL-41 can be a useful addition to a migraine care plan when light sensitivity is part of the picture.

How FL-41 works

A rose tint with a specific purpose.

FL-41 filters selected parts of visible light, including blue-green wavelengths associated with light sensitivity. This changes the balance of light reaching your eyes and gives the lenses their characteristic rose appearance.

It also reduces overall light, with the amount depending on tint density. The goal is a comfortable balance of filtering, brightness and clear vision. FL-41 has particular filtering properties, so an ordinary pink fashion tint is not automatically equivalent.

Choose the right density

For indoor use, start light.

The lightest sample below is labelled 27%. It is a useful starting point for an indoor comparison, where you want the comfort of FL-41 without making the room unnecessarily dark.

Three FL-41 lens samples labelled 27%, 50% and 75%, progressing from pale rose to a deeper red-brown tint.

27%: the lighter option

The lightest of these samples is the place to start when comparing options for screens, reading and everyday indoor lighting.

50%: a deeper tint

Noticeably darker than the 27% sample. Consider the extra reduction in brightness before choosing it for indoor tasks.

75%: the darkest sample

A much deeper tint to discuss for brighter conditions. It would usually be too dark as a starting point for ordinary indoor wear.

You do not need to choose the darkest lens to explore FL-41’s benefits. We can help compare comfort and visibility in the settings that matter to you; preferences and needs vary.

A warmer view

Why can everything look cooler when you take them off?

The rose tint gives your view a warmer colour balance. As your vision adjusts, that warmth may become less noticeable. When you remove the lenses, ordinary lighting can briefly look cooler or greener, and the return to unfiltered brightness may feel quite striking.

Colour adaptation is a plausible explanation for this contrast. Research with coloured lenses demonstrates the effect, although that study used red filters rather than FL-41 specifically.

Research and clinical use

A tint with a clinical history.

FL-41 has been used and studied since the early 1990s. The Moran Eye Center describes its use for migraine-associated light sensitivity and other light-sensitive conditions.

These studies support FL-41 as a worthwhile option to discuss. They are relatively small studies in particular patient groups, and responses vary. FL-41 is not a cure for migraine; use it alongside your usual eye care and migraine management.

Made for your day

Prescription, frame and tint advice in one place.

Bring your current glasses and tell us where light bothers you most. We can discuss tint density, available prescription lens designs and a comfortable frame fit. If you have frames you would like to keep, ask about reglazing.

Practical questions

Choosing and wearing FL-41

Can I have FL-41 in my prescription?

FL-41 is available in suitable prescription lenses, including single-vision and multifocal options. We will confirm the material, lens design, frame suitability and price for your prescription before ordering.

Will I notice the difference straight away?

You may notice a more comfortable view while comparing lenses. Trying them in relevant lighting is useful, and keeping track of how you feel over time helps you judge their place in your routine.

Can I wear FL-41 for night driving?

FL-41 is not a general night-driving aid. Tints reduce available light, so ask us to check the suitability of your particular lens for driving and follow its restrictions.

What about outdoor use and UV protection?

A lens for indoor comfort may not be the best choice for bright sunlight. We can discuss outdoor options and check the finished lens’s UV and sunglass specification. Visible tint colour alone does not establish UV protection. See our UV protection guide.

When to have light sensitivity checked

New or sudden sensitivity, particularly with a painful red eye or changed vision, needs prompt assessment. Sudden severe eye pain or loss of vision needs immediate emergency care. Persistent or one-sided changes in colour vision also need assessment. See our urgent eye care guide; if you cannot reach us, seek urgent medical care.
