Contact lenses in Reservoir

Contact lens fitting for clear, comfortable everyday vision.

Contact lenses can be a practical alternative to glasses for work, sport and everyday life. A proper fitting helps make sure the lenses suit your prescription, eye health and routine.

New to contact lenses?

We can guide you through lens selection, fitting, safe handling and care. Contact lenses are not suitable for everyone, so the first step is an assessment of your vision, eyes and individual needs.

A fitting is more than a prescription

What happens at a contact lens appointment?

Your glasses prescription is only one part of choosing a contact lens. A fitting may include:

  • A discussion about how and when you would like to wear contact lenses
  • An assessment of your vision, eye health and suitability
  • Measurements used to select an appropriate lens
  • Advice about lens options for your prescription and lifestyle
  • Practical instruction on insertion, removal, cleaning and storage
  • Follow-up to assess vision, comfort and the health of the front of the eye

Options for different needs

Which contact lenses might suit you?

Soft contact lenses

Soft lenses are commonly used for everyday or occasional wear. The most suitable wearing schedule and replacement cycle depends on your eyes, prescription and preferences.

Multifocal contact lenses

Multifocal designs may help suitable wearers who need support for both distance and near vision. A fitting allows us to assess the balance of vision and comfort.

More specialised needs

Some prescriptions or eye shapes need a more individual approach. We can assess your needs and explain the options that are appropriate for you.

Comfort and safety

Good contact lens habits matter.

Contact lenses sit directly on the eye, so hygiene, replacement schedules and follow-up care are important. Always follow the wearing and care instructions given for your particular lenses.

  • Wash and dry your hands before touching your lenses
  • Use the recommended contact lens solution—never tap water or saliva
  • Do not sleep in lenses unless you have specifically been advised that your lenses are designed and suitable for overnight wear
  • Replace lenses and cases as instructed
  • Attend recommended check-ups, even when the lenses feel comfortable

If an eye becomes sore, red or blurry

Remove the contact lens. If symptoms do not settle promptly, or there is discharge, light sensitivity, worsening pain or reduced vision, contact an optometrist without delay. For sudden or significant symptoms, see our urgent eye care information.

Already wearing contact lenses?

Review comfort, vision and eye health.

If your lenses are uncomfortable, your vision has changed, or you are unsure whether your current care routine is right, bring your lenses, packaging and any solutions you use to your appointment where practical.

We will assess the issue and discuss suitable next steps without assuming that one lens type works for everyone.
