Home visits in Reservoir
Optometrist home visits in Reservoir and nearby suburbs
If getting to the practice is difficult, eye care at home may be an option. Reservoir Spectacles offers home visits in Reservoir and surrounding suburbs, arranged directly with our team.
Call us to discuss who needs the visit, where they live and what help they need. We will confirm whether a home visit is suitable and whether we can arrange a time in your area.
For people who find it difficult to come to us
A home visit may help when mobility, health or care needs make attending the practice difficult. You, a family member or a carer can contact us to discuss the arrangements.
If you are enquiring for someone in residential aged care, please tell us the facility name and who we should speak with to coordinate access.
Some assessments need the equipment available at the practice or another clinical setting. We will discuss what can be assessed during a visit and whether further appointments may be needed. A home visit does not replace every type of in-practice examination.
Beyond the consulting room
Portable equipment, with outreach experience
We have portable testing equipment used for our Glasses for Kids outreach work. Piers also brings extensive experience in outreach and aged-care optometry.
That combination helps us plan eye care for people who cannot easily attend the practice. Before arranging a visit, we will talk through the person’s needs and the setting.
You can also read about our Glasses for Kids involvement or our practice and approach.

Reservoir and surrounding suburbs
Our home-visiting service is based around Reservoir and nearby suburbs in Melbourne’s north.
If you are in Preston, Kingsbury, Bundoora, Thomastown or another nearby suburb, call with the address or postcode so we can check coverage and availability. We confirm each visit individually rather than offer a fixed visiting timetable.
Home-visit fee: $200
A Medicare rebate may be available for eligible services. The rebate depends on the consultation provided, the applicable Medicare item numbers and the person’s eligibility. We can discuss the expected rebate and out-of-pocket cost before you decide to proceed.
The $200 fee is before any Medicare rebate. Please ask us about the arrangements for your visit when you call.
Medicare information: MBS home-visit item and explanatory notes. A fixed rebate does not apply to every visit.
How to arrange a home visit
1. Call the practice
Tell us the person’s suburb, why travelling is difficult and any eye or vision concerns.
2. Discuss the visit
We will check suitability, access arrangements, availability and the fee and expected rebate.
3. Prepare for the appointment
Have the person’s current glasses, medicines list and relevant eye reports available. Let us know if a family member or carer will be present.
Please arrange home visits by phone rather than booking a standard appointment online.
Sudden symptoms should not wait for a home visit
Seek urgent medical attention for sudden blurred vision or vision loss. Do not wait for a home-visit appointment. See our urgent eye-care guidance; if you cannot obtain timely care, seek an emergency service.
