What the assessment covers
Testing follows the form and current Victoria Police requirements
The vision assessment may include distance or near visual acuity and other tests specified in your booklet or needed to document your vision. Victoria Police’s published visual-system standard also describes additional assessment areas—such as visual fields, binocular vision and colour vision—where relevant to the applicant and their results.
Not every applicant needs every test. Some tests may need a separate appointment or further information. We’ll discuss what is requested before you attend.
An optometrist records assessment findings and completes the relevant vision information. Victoria Police makes recruitment and medical suitability decisions; an eye assessment cannot guarantee an application outcome.

Fees and Medicare
Check the fee and rebate before you book
Because this assessment is requested for recruitment, do not assume that Medicare will cover it. MBS guidance excludes some optometric services associated with fitness tests for vocational activities. If you also have a separate eye-health or vision concern, mention it when you call; the optometrist must decide whether any assessment meets the requirements of an eligible MBS item. Completing the recruitment report by itself does not establish rebate eligibility.
We’ll confirm the current assessment fee and any likely Medicare eligibility before you book.
